Project Brief:      

Design of a 100m-high antenna tower to deliver a range of technical functions and public             facilities, including observation platform and visitors centre.

Challenges:        

Tasked to design a slender tower in one of the world’s most seismically active areas. Broadcast equipment’s operational requirement and Turkish Seismic Code strongly influencing the geometry. The cylindrical steel space frame measure 6.5m in diameter along its height but tapered in stiffness toward the top. Mass dampers were used to disrupt harmonic oscillation. Awarded 2nd place.
